Forest School

At Broom Leys, we are incredibly proud of our Forest School provision, which gives children the opportunity to learn, explore and thrive in our beautiful woodland area based in our school grounds. Through regular Forest School sessions across the year, children experience the changing seasons first-hand, developing a deep appreciation and understanding of the natural world around them.

Our established woodland site provides the perfect outdoor classroom where children can take managed risks, solve problems, work collaboratively and build confidence. Following Forest School principles, sessions are child-centred, hands-on and designed to nurture resilience, independence, curiosity and wellbeing.

Throughout the seasons, children take part in a wide range of exciting activities, including:

  • Toasting marshmallows around the fire pit and learning about fire safety.
  • Building dens and shelters.
  • Learning to use a variety of tools and equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Exploring the woodland through games, challenges and treasure hunts.
  • Creating woodland-inspired crafts using natural resources.
  • Digging, splashing and enjoying adventures on our much-loved mud slide.
  • Observing wildlife and discovering how nature changes throughout the year.

Forest School provides far more than outdoor fun. It helps children develop confidence, perseverance and independence while encouraging teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills. As children work together, support one another and celebrate shared achievements, they form lasting friendships and create memories that will stay with them long after they leave Broom Leys.

Whether they are climbing, creating, investigating or simply enjoying time in nature, our children embrace every opportunity to challenge themselves, develop new skills and experience the joy of learning outdoors. Forest School is a much-loved part of life at Broom Leys and plays an important role in helping every child grow into a confident, capable and resilient learner.
