Broom Leys Awarded National Music Mark
We are delighted to share that we have been awarded the Music Mark of Recognition by the national association, Music Mark. This honour is given to only around 10% of schools across the country and celebrates our commitment to delivering high-quality music education.Leicestershire Music nominated us for the award in recognition of the importance we place on music and how it is embedded throughout our curriculum and wider school life.
At Broom Leys, all Year 3 pupils receive weekly recorder lessons, with many continuing in groups and clubs through Years 4 to 6. A further 68 children currently receive tuition in instruments including piano, keyboard, flute, guitar and drums. These pupils perform in our annual Summer Concert, alongside our School Choir and Chamber Choir, who also lead the Carol Service each year.
Weekly singing assemblies bring the whole school together, and children in Years 1 to 4 enjoy additional singing sessions. Year 5 pupils perform at De Montfort Hall as part of a massed choir, while Year 6 stage a musical production each summer. EYFS children perform a musical Nativity every Christmas.
We also host African Drumming workshops and welcome visiting musicians twice a year, giving pupils the chance to experience live performances.
Executive Principal Robert Prior said: “We are incredibly proud to receive the Music Mark of Recognition. It reflects the dedication and passion of our staff, the enthusiasm of our pupils and the value we place on music.”
