Gymnastic success

The sporting success at Broom Leys Primary School has shown no sign of stopping this term, as two of the school’s teams recently triumphed in the County Finals for gymnastics.

Having soared to victory in the North West Leicestershire competitions earlier in the year, the school’s Level One and Level Four squads were given the privilege of representing the region and competing against the winning schools from the nine other sports partnerships in Leicester; it really was the best taking on the best.

Held in Oakham, the school’s Level One team – which consisted of four talented gymnasts from Year 1 – were up bright and early on Wednesday 20th March, leaving school at 7:30am and arriving at the venue for a 9:00am start.

After wowing all in attendance with a stunning routine, the girls eventually finished third; a remarkable achievement.

With the bar set, it was then the turn of the Level Four team, which was made up of four girls from Year 5 and Year 6. Having acquired bronze and gold medals alongside a team trophy in the North West Leicestershire competition, morale was high as the girls made their way to Oakham in the afternoon.

Another dazzling performance followed as the girls stunned all in attendance and ended the day as county champions. Following an exhausting day, the team eventually returned to school at 6:30pm, but, such was their level of excitement and pride, not even that could dampen their mood.

Not only did all eight pupils perform sensationally against strong competition, they also looked the part.

This was thanks to James Hancox – Director of Hiregiant Ltd. – who very kindly sponsored the leotards for both gymnastics teams.
